Pyraryrite
San Jose Mining District, Oaxaca, Mexico

This is a wonderful specimen of pyrargyrite from the San Jose Mining district in Oaxaca, Mexico. I have not been there myself, but \"a friend of a friend\" is a miner there and brought this specimen to him who sold it to me. There are two main crystals on this piece. The uppermost one is double terminated and nearly flawless. It has a small crystal poking out the top that is contacted. This crystal is 2cm long, and 1.1 in diameter. It has great luster, even some red showing. The termination is very unusual: it has an overgrowth of pyrargyrite on top of pyrargyrite

Below it is another large crystal. One of its terminations is buried into the quartz matrix. The other end is not terminated.

I was hoping to get many more of these silvers, but I have not and it has been several years since I got this one. With the way things are in Mexico now (violence) and the world (virus) I doubt I will be getting any more, either! A nice piece, 3.7 x 3.2 x 3 cm.
