This is a very old specimen of cryolite from Greenland. It comes with an old label identifying it as part of H.B. Goodenough\'s collection. All I have been able to find out about Mr. Goodenough is that he lived in New Britain, CT and traveled to the Majestic Mines in Utah in the 1890\'s. Until I got this piece, I had no idea that columbite came from this locality. Neither the (black) columbite nor the (brown) siderites are well formed crystals, but the association with cryolite is very interesting. There is minor chalcopyrite as well. Actually, I am not 100% sure this is columbite. It may be sphalerite instead. On the bottom is a large siderite, measuring 2.2 cm on the longest edge. The entire piece measures 9 x 6 x 4 cm.
