Ed Caco was a Connecticut digger who specialized in Herkimer diamonds. When I bought his collection, he had two special Herkimers, this one and #10723. In your hand, you will think this crystal is perfect, but enlarged in the movie you will see a couple of contacta and a small ding at one end. What immediately attracts your attention, however, is the very unusual hydrocarbon inclusion. When I first started digging at Herkimer, these black inclusions were always identified as anthraxolite, but now people say hydrocarbon. In either case, I have not seen a hydrocarbon inclusion as interesting as this one. It seems very root-like, is in two pieces, and does not reach the surface of the crystal. It is also fairly large at 1.2 cm long. A rarity from Herkimer measuring 2.8 x 2.3 x 1.6 cm.
