This is a very colorful piece from the Phelps Dodge Mine in Morenci, Arizona. It measures 6 x 4.8 x 5 cm. While the bulk of the specimen is coated in green chrysocolla, a green malachite vug harbors several deep blue azurite rosettes. The rosettes aren\'t large (the biggest is only 5 mm across), but this is a very colorful and attractive specimen from a famous mine. I handled many specimens from here when Jimmie Dunn was doing some mining there. He got may pieces with nicer azurite rosettes, but I don;t remember any matrix specimens as colorful as this one. I believe this piece is from an earlier mining period.
