This is a very interesting large plate of hematite from the mines next to the most beautiful mineral show I have ever attended: the Saint Marie-aux-Mines show in France. The hexagonal crystals are stacked into columns and viewed from the side. This plate is remarkable for it's condition: almost perfect. Maybe my American bias is showing, but this is the first hematite I have seen from this locality. My understanding these specimens were collected from a small vein in the 1970's and 80's.
