Pyromorphite
Wheatley Mines, Phoenixville Mining District, Pennsylvania

This darling thumbnail specimen of pyromorphite from the classic Penssylvanian locality measures 2.6 x 1.5 x 2.4 cm. The crystals are actually a lighter green (more olive green) in person...for some reason the camera caught them as a darker green. I like the coverage of the crystals on the contrasting orange stained matrix: a thick mat in some places and just a sprinkling in others. Somehow I have never made it to this area to check it out as a field collector. I guess there are still dumps you can dig through, but finding anything at all is difficult, I am told.
