This is an absolute sweetheart specimen from Illinois with wonderful provenance: it is from Roy A. Smith a Connecticut geologist I had the pleasure of knowing before he passed away. Roy loved his fluorites and amassed one of the better fluorite collections in the country. He was also an expert at cleaning specimens and had a great eye for aesthetics. This piece reflects Roy's eye. The fluorites are purple with yellow cores. They are decorated with brassy chalcopyrites and red sphalerites. There are a few small barite groups hidden between the fluorites as well. The piece is impeccable...I have not found any damage on it. Twinned fluorites are very unusual from Illinois, but this specimens has several twins on it. The bottom of the specimen shows a little bit of limestone matrix. Roy acquired this piece in 1985...already almost 40 years ago.
It measures 12.5 x 9.5 x 6 cm. I will happily keep this piece forever. I reserve the right to refuse rehoming it if I think you cannot properly care for it...
