Fluorite
Iron Hill Area, Hardin County, Illinois

Roy Smith's old label for this piece indicates it's from the "Iron Hill Area" in Hardin County, Illinois. This is a very uncommon locality. In fact, mindat has only 4 photos of fluorites from this mine, also called the Tower Rock Mine. This is a large corner section of a crystal with VERY dramatic stepped growth on every face. It looks like some sort of futuristic cityscape. It is a big piece, undamaged, measuring 13.5 x 11 x 6 cm. All of the faces are waving because they are crystal upon crystal upon crystal. The color ranges from dark purple to light and also looks great when backlit.
