Bastnasite-(Ce) with Adularia
Zagi Mountains, near Kafoor Dheri, Pakistan

It is very hard to get a bastnasite specimen from anywhere in the world. It is even harder to get one on matrix. This is a wonderful specimen with very odd crystallization. Bastnasite is a hexagonal mineral: this piece looks for all the world like a hexagon on top of a triangle! It must be two separate stages of growth where the first "trinagular" crystal is actually a hexagon with 3 diminished sides. The effect is startling and attractive. No damage, good luster, and a nice association with adularia. 4.8 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm overall and the bastnaesite measures 2 cm across the bottom edge of the "triangle."
