This is a wonderful crystal of sphalerite on quartz from Bulgaria. It has a large flat triangular face surrounded by beveled edges. It is very lustrous, which makes it difficult to film. I like the dramatic difference between the shape and color of the sphalerite and its green needle quartz matrix. I also like the simple, bold, crystal shape of the sphalerite...so many sphalerites are twinned (sometimes many times) or intergrown that it is hard to appreciate the crystal form. Not so with this piece: it looks like it jumped out of a Goldschmidt drawing. 3.3 x 5.5 x 5.5 cm. The sphalerite is 2.4 cm along one edge.
